Owner’s notes
It was hard not to turn our boat into a living thing right from the beginning when we decided to name her after our Australian Shepherd mix dog Sera. She is who graces our bows with her big wings in full flight and her ears perked and ready to go. Sera Dog never had a bad day in her life. She was always ready for fun and adventure. And that is the way we tried to approach our time on Serafina. There are always going to be days on a boat when mechanical things don’t go your way, but as long as we had sails to propel us, and food, we went.
Serafina took us to the Revillagigedo Islands, where we anchored in crystal clear water, eighty feet deep, to dive with sharks and turtles and see endemic species of fish. We spent four days at Catalina Island, and many more in the east bay at Isla Isabel, snorkeling around the Monas. We surfed across the bar at Bahia del Sol, El Salvador and crossed the Tehuantepec twice, some of the fastest and most exhilarating sailing of the journey. We made dozens of friends and I baked dozens of loaves of bread.
Serafina is a sturdy, easy boat. This spring we entered in the Banderas Bay Regatta couples division and sailed her harder and faster than ever before. It was a blast to see what she is capable of.
If you are wondering why we are selling Serafina, the reason is because our son now lives in Europe and we are finding it challenging to split our time between all the things we want to do. If we weren’t feeling so stretched, we would still be cruising, trying to perfect our tacks and pushing Serafina to fly as fast as she can.
