40′ Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40

Thula is a 2000 French built Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40 that was first sold in San Diego in 2000. In  2009 she was shipped to Seattle and remained in the Puget Sound for over 10 years. Her previous  owner maintained her to a high standard, and incorporated a number of improvements over the  decade he owned her. These are listed at the bottom of this document.

Thula was purchased by the current owner in January 2020, in the Puget Sound. She was in excellent  condition at the time of purchase and has been well maintained since. She sails well, is agile and  maneuverable. Her gori prop makes her fast on the water, although she has never been raced. Her 56  HP Yanmar engine currently has 2,275 hours she will easily cruise at 6 knots @2,000RPM and at 7  knots at 2,500RPM. As part of a preventive maintenance program, the engine has had complete  replacement of all water and exhaust hoses, the raw water and fresh water pumps, and the heat  exchanger and elbow. At the same time, the prop shaft was pulled and a new cutlass bearing and  dripless shaft seal were fitted.

Thula’s 63 gallons of fuel, contained in 3 separate fuel tanks, gives her a range of approximately  575NM at 5.5 knots. Her dual racor filtration system with an integrated polishing circuit allows  immediate change of either the fuel tank or the filter while underway, providing a constant supply of  clean diesel. Under sail, all controls are led to the cockpit, and her furling genoa is easily managed.  Similarly, her in-mast furling gear is efficient and light, making short work of reefing when needed.  She can easily be single handed, and a crew of two is more than enough.

In the last 3 years, Thula has been further configured to cruise more independently in remote areas.  Her new internally regulated Lithium Iron (Fe3PO4) batteries coupled with her new 460W of solar  panels render her completely green from an energy perspective. She also has a new Spectra  watermaker with the Z-ion feature (September 2022), which, drawing only 10 amps, is run entirely  on her solar output. We have been able to cruise to remote anchorages for weeks on end without ever  needing to run the engine for energy!

Thula is a lovely boat with a well appointed interior. She has 2 cabins and a convertible settee (complete with a lee cloth for offshore passages), allowing up to 3 couples to sleep aboard. On the  ocean she is fully equipped for longer passages and has all expected safety equipment (Liferaft /  EPIRB / Radar / GPS /additional bilge pump) and at dock is comfortable with an energy efficient 24”  LED television that is internet capable and received WiFi directly from either a cell phone or a  marina system. Thula has a surprisingly large amount of storage space for a yacht of her genre. Her  upholstery is in excellent condition and interior woodwork does not reflect her age. Her galley is  very functional, and the new Xantrex 1800W inverter more than capable of running her microwave  oven at anchor. Her hot water tank typically runs on the 110V shore power, but also incorporates a  dedicated engine loop to provide heat while the engine is running.

A 2019 Achilles roll up dingy and a 2020 3.5HP Tohatsu 4 stroke outboard is included with the sale.

Thula is being sold as her retired owners have completed their sailing time and with a new grandchild  expected in April, wish to spend more time with their immediate family.

The Sun Odyssey 40 comes with two spacious and comfortable cabins. Private double owners cabin is forward with loads of storage and a built-in writing desk. 2nd private double berth is aft, also with plenty of built-in storage. Head is aft opposite galley. Captain’s area with nav station table, a complete galley, wide U-shaped dinette and numerous storage lockers.
