This Phil Rhodes design is a true yacht in the finest sense of the word… graceful lines, traditional sheer, engineered fittings, comfortable appointments, and performance to match! The designer has kept draft exceptionally shallow as compared to most heavy-ballasted boats… but has increased beam for more roominess and comfort. The high displacement ratio and ample ballast make the Vanguard very stable in heavy seas, surprisingly nimble in light airs.
Current owner was a yacht broker for 10 years in Chicago and Seattle, a marine insurance broker for 25 years in Seattle and Port Townsend, Wa, and now a marine surveyor in Port Townsend, Wa with 20 years experience surveying yachts. He did a lot of market research into the quality of the vessel construction, checked the valuation and spoke to the professional mariner who did the restoration, painting, wiring, bought the sails and built the extended hardtop for sun and spray protection and more.
Having completed that process, the current owner purchased the boat, has been very pleased with it, and is selling it for personal and family reasons, which include a wife and three young grandchildren in the Pacific Northwest.
A major bare bones refit was completed in 2017. All Electrical, mechanical and plumbing was replaced. Boat was painted inside and out with Awl-grip, Bottom was stripped and barrier coated, Rudder was replaced.
