The Hunter 29.5 is the “all around” sailboat, with the perfect combination of performance and comfort! Offering maximized accommodations, a large comfortable cockpit, and excellent sailing performance at an affordable price. Though designed with simplicity in mind, WindSong has been outfitted to function as a versatile, live aboard pocket cruising/sailing vessel that can handle a variety of different voyage objectives. With a shallow draft and wing keel giving it nimble maneuverability, she can get you in and out of tight places that larger, deeper designs would have to avoid.
Equipped with a fractional sloop rig, the large mainsail and ample furling jib make tacking and sail handling a breeze for the short-handed, or single-handed sailor. When the sails are out and it’s time to cut the motor and start sailing, you can also “feather” the stainless steel Autostream propeller to reduce drag and increase performance. Halyards and sheets are all accessible from the cockpit, as are the reefing lines. Installed boom brake takes the worry out of jibing and sailing downwind. No backstay means that there is room at the stern for a Bimini, topped with solar panels, and a walk-through swim platform. The large 7’ x 7’ cockpit provides a great platform for racing, cruising, and entertaining, and it does them all well.
Smaller and therefore more economical replacement parts is an advantage inherent to a smaller, lighter hull design. Powered by an efficient 18hp 2GM20F Yanmar diesel engine, fuel costs are low, while the 20gal fuel tank provides excellent range. When replacing rigging, anchor chain, or engine components, smaller means less cost in repair and upkeep. Also keep in mind that marinas charge you by the foot for slip space.
Whether you are looking for some sport sailing in and around the Bahia de La Paz, a fishing expedition to a secluded cove, a chance to take the family on a sightseeing trip down the channel or out to the islands, or perhaps to venture out into the Sea of Cortez for a few months of island hopping alone, or with a friend, WindSong can get you there. Take the 8 foot dinghy, equipped with a 3HP two stroke outboard, to a deserted beach, or to explore a hidden estuary or lagoon, then go to the City of La Paz for a shopping trip or find a beach side restaurant. Or maybe you’d just like to get away for a while and lay at anchor by the “Mogote”, throw out a fishing line, and watch the dolphins play as the sun goes down. It’s all possible and easy to do on WindSong.
The electrical systems on WindSong have been upgraded starting with 400 amp-hours of deep cycle AGM battery storage, new up-sized cabling and fuses and cutoff switches. Also new is a Xantrex inverter/charger and battery monitor. Also new are LED navigation lights, cabin lighting, and USB charging ports installed in strategic locations. Instrumentation has been enhanced with a Raymarine Axiom 7 chart plotter connected to a CPT-70 through hull transducer providing not only depth and speed, but fish finding and sonar capability. The original Raymarine instruments and auto pilot have been integrated with the chart plotter through an NMEA2000 marine network.
Ground tackle includes a new Rocna 10 anchor, with 100 feet of 5/16” G4 galvanized chain spliced to 200 feet of 5/8” three-strand nylon anchor line. A secondary “Rocna style” anchor with 30 feet of ¼” chain and 200 feet of ½” three-strand nylon anchor line provides backup and extra holding power when needed.. A Danforth is available at the stern.
Water can be provided through the installed Katadyn PS40e water maker and stored in the 40-gallon water tank. A new water pump provides pressure to the galley sink, the bathroom sink, and both the bathroom shower head, and the swim platform shower head. The toilet holding tank has been equipped with an electric Jabsco macerator pump.
