Buoyant Broadcasts: Cruisin’ and Vlogging in the Sea of Cortez

The tranquil vision of rewarding solitude has long been associated with cruising life along the Baja California peninsula—an opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of the ‘real world.’ Those who navigate these waters understand that a treasure lies in the vibrant social connections forged during their journeys.

Enter the Baja HaHa, a proven tradition showcasing that there’s more to this than just ocean, sea, and sun… but with the rise of offshore connectivity solutions like Starlink and the ubiquitous presence of smartphones, a new era of sailing has emerged—one where sailors document their adventures not only on nautical charts but also across digital platforms. Welcome to the age of sailing vlogs.

Check out La Paz Yachts’s selection of our favorurite sailing vloggers and influencers. We selected channels that aren’t just about escapism but about embracing the flavor of a life at sea—the salty, the sweet, and everything in between.

Sailing Blue Pearl by Chris and Jessica Hanna
Let’s kick things off with this channel that takes you on a journey aboard the Blue Pearl, a stunning Irwin 65 ketch (she was a La Paz Yachts listing, by the way 🌞). Chris and Jessica share their sailing adventures with a real all-hands-on-deck attitude (except the one on the selfie stick).

Expect captivating footage, beautiful landscapes, but also insights into life on board without editing out the hassle that it can be to find your batteries dried up after leaving the boat for a long time and having to fully replace a house bank or do a full rewiring gig of your vessel in the scorching summer days of La Paz.

The Hannas are bearing fruits, with a growing follower base and excellent content on their YouTube Channel; they just got their full story printed out in World Cruising.

Our fav episode on board the Blue Pearl: the one when they actually bought their gorgeous boat from La Paz Yachts.

Sailing Milagro by Kevan Draper
Kevan chronicles his experiences sailing the Sea of Cortez on SV Milagro, his fully outfitted Catalina 42 MKII. We have to say that Kevan is one of the main reasons we are putting out this blog post, since his boat is now listed in La Paz Yachts and is such a great boat for sea exploration—you have to take a look at the details.

Business aside, “Sailing Milagro” is really worth the watch. His musings don’t just cover boat maintenance and exploring hidden coves; his stories provide a personal perspective on life at sea and also excellent content about life in La Paz and the SOC in general. He just did a great take on his research regarding the availability of marina slips or “how to buy a boat” in Mexico, which is a regular reference for our walk-ins here in the office.

In deed the one most suitable for you might be his to-do-list when buying a boat in Mexico, as borkers in the business for 15 years we really recomend to see this before going at it to get the full picture of whi La Paz as such a convinient location to buy a boat in Mexico 🌞.

Cruisin’ Cantante by John Davidson
We’re switching from sails to steam on this one, but it’s worth the add. Our last pick is not your regular “influencer”; John Davidson is a real “pro.” John is the real deal: he is a well-known singer, Hollywood actor, and TV host. I mean, his first steps in the La Paz marinas had a very well-deserved Washington Post coverage!

Live streaming from the deck of his purring Californian 42’ trawler “Cantante” (named for the Spanish word for Singer), John can be seen cruising and broadcasting on still beaches by the anchorages of our mesmerizing Bay of La Paz, Mexico.

Away from your regular boating show, John’s episodes feature his many talents, songs, jokes, and reflections on the past, present, and future of his career. Expect a good dose of humor, nostalgia, and inspiration from this seasoned entertainer-adventurer.

Our favorite episode: the one with that good ol’ Jimmy Buffet song about turning over 40 and still kickin’.

There are notable mentions to our picks, like Sailing with Vampires and Sailing Key Lime Pie, who are two personal favorites that might need an extra post just to talk about their unique approach to travel vlogging.
