Tom Murray

Tom’s connection to the water began at the tender age of eight at the Red Cross Summer Sailing School on Seattle’s Green Lake. By ten, he was spending his summers cruising British Columbia’s spectacular waters—from Desolation Sound to the Broughton Island Archipelago—aboard his uncle’s classic 45-foot Edwin Monk, Sr. cruiser.

 

That early love for the sea quickly evolved into a deep, practical understanding of how boats are built. When his uncle decided to build a Bruce Roberts 53 from the ground up, Tom spent the next four summers fully immersed in the project—working from the original inverted mold, laying fiberglass resin, turning the hull, and glassing in the bulkheads, tankage, and decks. This foundational experience gave Tom an invaluable, hands-on masterclass in vessel construction and structural integrity.

After a successful 28-year career in the mortgage and escrow business—and spending a decade meticulously refitting their own Robert Perry-designed CT54—Tom and his wife decided it was time to chart a new course. In 2010, they cast off from Seattle with no fixed destination, chasing warmer weather and open horizons. Two years later, they sailed into the tranquil waters of La Paz and knew instantly they had found their paradise.

Shortly after arriving, Tom was invited to join the team at La Paz Yachts. Fourteen years later, he is still doing what he loves every single day. For Tom, combining his extensive background in contract negotiations and escrow with a lifetime of maritime experience makes helping clients buy and sell boats in the Sea of Cortez less of a job and more of a calling. He is proud to be part of such a dedicated team and truly considers La Paz his forever home.
